Anderson House

Stroll through the first and second floors of this 1905 Beaux-Arts mansion and explore its walled garden, which is not normally open to the public. The current exhibition features over twenty photographs of Anderson House taken in 1910 by Francis Benjamin Johnston, one of the first American women to achieve distinction as a photographer and noted D.C. resident.

Visit the exhibition In Small Things Remembered before it travels to Kabul. The show includes over 100 reproductions of photographs and documents - many never shown before publicly - that chronicle early relations between the United States and Afghanistan. Audiences will learn about the first Afghan diplomatic mission to the U.S. in 1921, surprising cultural exchanges, and other developments unknown to a post-9/11 world. This exhibit was created with support from the U.S. Department of State.

Jazz 'n Families Fun Days - Honoring the Phillips's partnership with the D.C. Jazz Festival and the museum's 90th anniversary, musicians improvise to artworks in the permanent collection. Interact with an instrument petting zoo, storyteller, and create an original work of art to take home. Enjoy works from Pierre-Auguste Renoir's Luncheon of the Boating Party to Jacob Lawrence's The Migration Series, along with special 90 Years of New installations and Intersections projects by contemporary artists Balasuramaniam and Lee Boroson.

What’s Old is New: A Salute to Recycling and Green Design. The gardens are transformed into a hands-on exploration of textile techniques during the annual Celebration of Textiles festival.
